Who is the course aimed at?
This course is designed for complete beginners and for those who just need to jog their memory with how it is done. You may just be coming along as you; are interested in learning a new skill or hobby, for social reasons and to make new friends, to switch off from your day job, grab an important bit of ‘you time’ or you may just need to get over a bad sewing experience at school. There are so many reasons why people come along to sew but we are all there to learn and have some fun!
What skills will I learn?
You will learn how to fill a bobbin, thread your machine, stitch in a straight line, a curved line, cut out your pattern pieces, hem, top stitch, construction, buttonhole, neaten raw edges, troubleshoot, changing a needle, put in a zip, insert linings, sugar bottom corners and much more!
What will I have at the end of the course?
You will have made a beautiful button back cushion, a stylish lined shopper bag and a really useful lined zipped pouch. This course has been considered with sustainability in mind, so nothing goes to waste and you will make a pin cushion that contains all your offcuts! You will also leave with a wealth of knowledge and confidence to take on projects of your own and a new group of friends!

The course runs for six weeks in two-hour lessons.

Who runs this course?
All courses are run by Vanessa Adams of Sew Sew Helpful who has over six years of teaching experience with both adults and children and has a lot of patience and ideas too! Find out more about Vanessa here.
How many people are in a class?
The maximum class size is six people, so you'll always the time and support needed to develop your sewing skills.
What's included?
All materials, tea and nibbles!
What do I need to bring?
Everything is provided for this course. You may wish to bring along a notepad and pen so that you can document anything you may want to recall later.
What can I do next?
Once you have completed this course you will be able to go onto the beginners to dressmaking course or any of the workshops listed.
Can I bring my own machine?
Unfortunately not, as it makes the class more tricky to teach if everyone has their own machine, however, you can book in for a one-to-one if you’d prefer. Everything taught on the course will be transferrable to your machine at home, as you will be using an easy to use Janome 230DC which is one of the industry’s leading models. During the class, you will also have pointed out to you any potentially slight differences which will help you to apply to your own machine.
Important Information
Please note that classes require a minimum of three people. If in the unfortunate circumstance there are insufficient participants you will be either refunded or offered an alternative date.
